Untagged Scrub

Remove the metadata that triggers Instagram's "AI info" label before you upload, without touching a single pixel.

See the C2PA, EXIF, XMP, IPTC and PNG markers inside your image, clean them, verify the result. Works for Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, X (Twitter), Pinterest and YouTube uploads. Free, no sign-up.

Files never leave your device, everything runs in your browser

What does Instagram look at?

  • C2PA / Content Credentials: the signed manifest the generating tool embeds in the file (JPEG APP11, PNG caBX, WebP C2PA).
  • IPTC DigitalSourceType: a "trainedAlgorithmicMedia" value inside XMP; it literally means "AI-generated".
  • EXIF / XMP fields: Software, CreatorTool, Credit ("Made with Google AI" and the like).
  • PNG text chunks: Stable Diffusion / ComfyUI "parameters", "prompt", "workflow" keys.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not remove invisible pixel watermarks (Google SynthID, Meta Content Seal) and does not try to. Images from those tools may still get labeled after cleaning; the card shows this as a risk.
  • It does not change Meta's disclosure rules for photorealistic AI content; the publishing decision and responsibility are yours.

FAQ: the Instagram AI label

Untagged Scrub is a free AI label remover, AI metadata remover and C2PA remover that runs entirely in your browser. Use it to remove the AI info label on Instagram, strip Content Credentials and clean EXIF, XMP and IPTC metadata before you upload.

Why does Instagram add the "AI info" label to my photo?

Instagram reads the metadata inside the file you upload. The tool that generated or edited the image (ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop's generative fill and so on) embeds "AI" markers such as C2PA Content Credentials or IPTC DigitalSourceType. When Meta detects these industry-standard signals it applies the label automatically; no human looks at your post.

How do I remove the AI info label on Instagram?

An automatic label can't be removed from a published post. The fix: delete the post, clean the image with the tool above (every AI marker in the metadata is removed losslessly), then re-upload the clean file. On the upload screen, make sure you haven't switched on the "Made with AI" disclosure yourself.

I turned the AI label off on the upload screen and it still shows. Why?

That switch only controls your own disclosure. The automatic label comes from data inside the file; if you delete the post and re-upload the same file, the metadata comes back with it. Clean the file first, then upload.

When is metadata cleaning not enough?

Some generators embed an invisible watermark in the pixels themselves rather than in the file: Google (Gemini, Imagen, Nano Banana) uses SynthID, Meta AI uses Content Seal, and OpenAI adopted SynthID in 2026. Metadata cleaning does not remove these watermarks, and this tool does not try to. It guesses the generator from the file's markers and shows the pixel-watermark risk on the card. Midjourney, Flux and local Stable Diffusion output carries metadata only.

Does cleaning reduce image quality?

No. In "Lossless" mode only the metadata blocks are removed from JPEG, PNG and WebP files; the image data stays byte-for-byte identical and the ICC color profile is kept. Only photos with EXIF orientation and GIF/AVIF/HEIC files are re-encoded.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Analysis and cleaning run entirely in your browser; files never leave your device. You can save the page and use it offline.

Is it allowed to post AI images without the label?

Meta asks for disclosure on photorealistic content that was created or altered with AI and says it may apply penalties when undisclosed content is detected. This tool only cleans the metadata in your file; the publishing decision and responsibility rest with whoever posts the content.

Does it also work for TikTok, X (Twitter), Facebook, Threads, Pinterest and YouTube?

Yes. All of these platforms detect AI content mainly through the same C2PA/IPTC metadata: Facebook and Threads use the same system as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube label automatically from C2PA (TikTok does not let you remove the label after posting), X applies "Made with AI" based on C2PA, and Pinterest uses IPTC metadata together with its own classifiers. Clean the file once and upload it anywhere; the same caveat about pixel watermarks applies everywhere.

The cleaned file is re-analyzed before download and the number of remaining markers is shown. In "Lossless" mode the image data stays byte-for-byte identical and the ICC color profile is kept. JPEGs with EXIF orientation are re-encoded automatically so they don't display rotated.
